Our Welcoming Covenant
Parkland Community Church is a community of faith-seeking people who affirm the worth and dignity of every person.
We acknowledge that throughout history the Christian church has often condemned and excluded people because of race, culture, age, gender identity, economic status, disability or sexual orientation.
While the church has made progress in being open and affirming to many groups, there continues to be condemnation of gay, lesbian, bisexual, non-binary and transgender persons from the community of faith, or, at least, a tolerance of such condemnation and exclusion through silence.
We believe such actions are inconsistent with Christ’s teachings.
Parkland Community Church is a member of Presbyterian Church USA (PC USA). PC USA is an open and affirming denomination that supports and fully welcomes LGBTQIA+ people. PC USA’s policies, however, are permissive, not mandatory, so some congregations and regions may exclude LGBTQIA+ people.
We believe such exclusions are inconsistent with Christ’s teachings, and we stand aligned with PC USA’s open, affirming and supportive stance.
We declare ourselves to be an open and affirming congregation, welcoming into the life and ministry of the church persons of every race, culture, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability and economic status.
We are committed to inclusion, love, community and justice for all people.
